· St. Raphael School, team manager Paula Thompson, team number 135-19808, for Instant Challenge. The appraisers said, “Girls were energetic, worked as a team and produced a performance that was entertaining!”
DaVinci Award
· Brady Middle School, team manager Beth Wilson-Fish, team number 135-23119. The Round About Courage appraisers said, “Great design of a school desk...used initially as such then combined with a platform full of balloons. Became a large toilet bowl from which, in a flushing motion, the balloons overflowed. Very creative!”
· Mapleton High School, team manager Barbara Fisher, team number 135-13284. Instant challenge appraisers said, “A lot of good teamwork. Very creative, fun group!”
Renaissance Award
· Lexington High School, team manager Emily Patterson, team number 135-74528. The Round About Courage appraisers said, “Elaborate design of a rickshaw and set which was part swamp, tree and river. A beautiful design that helped set the stage for a dark, morbid play. The rickshaw supported the weight of an individual and was mobile…beautifully crafted!”
· Elyria City School, team manager Charlene Hartley, team number 135-32845. The Instant challenge appraisers said, “The team excelled in design, engineering and team performance. In the area of engineering, this team used materials creatively to accommodate for design needs and utilized trial and error to find appropriate materials. In their performance, they thought quickly to correct failed attempts, accommodated for one another’s mistakes and successes, and used a compilation of team ideas.”
· Gesu Catholic School, team manager Marjorie Gessner, team number 135-81919. The Switching Traditions appraisers said, “This team used their materials in a unique manner to create the illusion of an animal moving on its own that enriched each tradition as the team traveled from China to Greece to Brazil. Their friend TT (traditionator turtle) helped them complete their challenge in a way that impressed the appraisers above and beyond their expectations. Outstanding creativity!”
· Beachwood Jets, team manager Deepak Lachwani, team number 135-24363. The Direct Flight appraisers said, “The team used several different types of aircraft in order to achieve the desired results. Their research (i.e., trip to airport) gave them a good foundation on which to build.”
· Moreland Hills, team manager Stacey Epstein, team number 135-36039. The Instant challenge appraisers said, “The team really jelled in terms of designing their challenge and presenting it. Their teamwork and spirit was very evident and positive. We thoroughly enjoyed watching them work together and performing. Wonderful job!”
